The Digital Product Pass

Secure Digital Identities for Products

Why do products need secure Digital Identities?

Similar to organizations and people, products have a Digital Identity. A Digital Identity makes it possible to verify the authenticity of a product, facilitate the traceability of products and control access to specific information or functions. There are currently various applications that use Digital Identities for products, such as the Digital Product Passport and the electronic warranty certificate.

Use-Case Digital Product Passport

The implementation of a Digital Product Passport (DPP) for certain product types is part of the planned EU regulation on the Ecodesign of Sustainable Products (ESPR). Going forward, the DPP will document all components of a product as well as its composition and origin. But how can we ensure trust in the information provided and how can sensitive data be protected? Using verifiable credentials for implementing the DPP offers a solution to this.
